Chasing Sleep: Life with Insomnia
Life without sleep can have disastrous consequences, as anyone who knows who is suffering from insomnia. In the following vignettes, three people, as the hunt for sleep has a profound impact on their lives.
One day too late, one U.S. Dollar Short
Fran, a fifty something Sales Professional, sleeps sporadically, most nights. She works long hours and believed that due to in part to their difficulty to task. Their biggest challenge at work, however, is the inability to agree on timetable. In recent years, Fran never forget a meeting, in fact, she was usually the first ones to arrive. Since insomnia has on their lives, though, missed appointments are listed on the agenda.
Since the livelihood is Fran sales, too late to an appointment can be the same loss of income. Compounding their problems, their difficulties attention during these dates. Believing himself to be suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder, she had even tested, but the results were not convincing. It is much more likely, the psychologist concluded that her chronic insomnia was their focus.
Steps to ensure their sleep back on track, Fran are back in the game once sleepless nights were rare. Your schedule is no longer derailed, she breezed through her presentations, and sales climbed. Who would have thought a good night’s sleep could have such an impact on their bottom line?
A Study in sleep deprivation
Rick, on the other side, nor for the training of his career. Smart and ambitious, he carried a heavy course load in college. Determined on the top of his class, Rick studied late into the night the first year in school and also in each course.
Unfortunately, his habit of skipping sleep to a pattern of chronic insomnia in the following year. No longer in a position to conclude after studying his thoughts about playing for hours after it on the pillow. As a result, his grades began to suffer, and to stay awake in class into a real fight. His normally abundant notes from lectures shrank to sketchy outlines of what he remembered. His performance in his class was based on a fear that it awake nights.
Late in his student years Rick’s fiancĂ©e, he suggested to participate in a sleep study. He learned he was seriously sleep deprived, at a level that endangers his health. An irregular heart rate and slows the metabolism, two of the warning signs that his body was craving sleep. He knew he overly tired, but had no idea his lack of sleep could affect your body systems. This “wake-up call” was the impetus he needed to take steps to his insomnia.
Insomnia Runs in the Family
This brings us to Anna, a stay-at-home mother with three small children. During their days, Anna worked efficiently to meet their budget in order. My youngest child recently developed colic, a pattern of interrupted sleep. Even as his symptoms subsided, sleep was broken, to the point she was not sleeping more than an hour at a time without waking up.
Anna’s husband was the first order they had in addition to severe fatigue fatigue. His normally cheerful woman had outbursts of anger, and the children were in response to the tensions. Even with his extra help around the house, Anna swung between anger and exhaustion.
I would like to say that Anna was able quickly to find her balance, but their chronic lack of sleep continues to take its toll on the family. Not only the daily duties neglected, her relationship with her husband also suffered. Anna balked when he proposed to them to restore their normal sleep patterns. Ironically, the long-term lack of sleep left Anna depressed and unmotivated to a cure for her insomnia.
